6 Steps to Long, Thick, and Healthy Hair + DIY Hair Masks

Updated: May 12

Who doesn't want their hair to be long, thick, and healthy? Even if having long hair isn't one of your hair goals, I'm sure you want to keep it thick and healthy.

I've put my most trusted hair care tips into one list so you can achieve the hair of your dreams! Plus, I've added some of my favorite DIY hair masks for when you feel your hair needs an extra boost.

How to Have Long, Thick, and Healthy Hair:

1. Take Viviscal or at least 500mg of Biotin supplement daily. EVERY DAY NO SKIPPING!

2. If your hair is dry or damaged, get it cut no longer than every 8 weeks. If your hair is healthy, go no longer than 3 months in between cuts.

3. Only use a flexible wet brush on your hair when brushing wet, and be VERY gentle. Wet hair is more vulnerable to breakage.

4. Don't use over 400 degrees heat with any of your styling tools!

5. Always use heat protectant (it's not a gimmick, trust me)

6. Use a shampoo and conditioner addressing your primary complaint and a heat protectant addressing your secondary complaint.

If your ends are split, it will keep splitting up the hair shaft and the length won't get any longer! I tell my clients it's better to take off one inch every 8 weeks to get you in the habit, rather than 4 inches at once and then you cry and wait another 8 months to get it cut.

Here are my favorite and most trusted DIY Hair Masks:

For Oily Hair:

Having naturally oily hair is something that so many people sturggle with. I totally get how frustrating it can be.

First, I recommend trying to wash your hair less. I know, it sounds like the total opposite of what you want to do! But reducing the amount of times you wash your hair per week will help bring balance to your scalp and will likely reduce oil production over time.

For the mask, mix one egg white and lemon juice (about half a lemons worth). Egg whites are awesome for combating excess oil production, and lemon juice will also help remove build up.

Leave the mask on for at least an hour if you can. Rinse with warm water and wash as normal!

For Dry/Damaged Hair:

Trying to manage dry, damaged, or frizzy hair can be super annoying. This mask will help bring moisture into your hair to make it a little more manageable!

Mix one whole egg, a teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon of olive or coconut oil, and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. The egg, honey, and oil will help bring in moisture, while the apple cider vinegar helps smooth the hair shafts!

Leave this mask on for at least an hour if you can. Rinse with warm water and wash as normal!

For Stimulating Hair Growth:

If you're looking to promote hair growth while bringing in moisture and shine, try this hair mask!

Mix equal parts coconut oil and cinnamon! Coconut oil is great for moisturizing your hair and keeping you scalp healthy for hair growth. Cinnamon is anti-microbial and will also stimulate your scalp for hair growth (plus it smells great!)

Leave this mask on for at least an hour if you can. Rinse with warm water and wash as normal!

All of these masks can be adjusted to suit your hair length!

I love using hair masks to keep my hair nourished and healthy!

I hope these tips help you reach your hair goals!!

Much love,
